Any passenger who is unable to produce a valid ticket when requested to do so by an authorised officer is liable to pay a Penalty Fare.
The Penalty Fare of up to £120 must be paid within 21 days.
Any payments received within 14 days of the date of issue will benefit from a 50% reduction and will be charged up to £60.00.
The Penalty Fare charge was raised to £120 on 25th October, 2023, so any charges after this date will be at the higher rate.

To pay the Penalty Fare you can either:-
- Call: our payment line on 0161 202 0955 Monday to Friday between the hours of 08:30 and 16:30 (excluding Bank Holidays);
- In-person: at a Travelshop;
- Send a cheque or postal order: made payable to Keolis Amey Metrolink Ltd, to the address: RRS, PO Box 113, Manchester, M8 0RY
Appealing a Penalty Fare notice
If you don’t think you should pay, you may appeal by writing within 21 days of the date of issue, but we only accept appeals in exceptional circumstances.

We aim to reply, with our decision on your appeal, within 14 days.

Unpaid Penalty Fare
If payment is not received within 21 days, the Penalty Fare will increase. Metrolink reserve the right to refer your case to the Magistrates Court for Criminal Prosecution without further notice.
